What can I expect my first visit?
How can chiropractic benefit me?
Your first visit is an hour long. The portion will be getting to know you, your goals, and your health history. After which we will proceed with muscle release, trigger point, in order to relax the body. After which is the chiropractic adjustment, whether it be a physical or tool-based adjustment, that will be decided based on patient needs. To end the appointment, exercise and stretch care is discussed to allow further healing to occur outside of the office.
Do you take insurance?
Honu Chiropractic does not take insurance. We can do accept HSA and FSA cards. We can also put together a superbill for your insurance, but there is no guarantee on what they will cover. That is up to your insurance.
This model was chosen so that there could be more time devoted to patient care and concerns instead of billing.
I am scared of the 'popping' noise...
Due to blood flow and joint mechanics, gas molecules (carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc) get stored within the joint capsule where distortion is present. The chiropractic adjustment relieves this distortion to improve bone position within the joint, the sudden release of the gas can cause an audible "pop" sound.
HOWEVER, we do offer softer techniques such as activator and drop table technique that do not have the audible "pop" sound as well.
The chiropractic adjustment is used to improve joint function and remove interference of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex for optimal body function.
A subluxation is when the vertebral bones of the spine are mildly dislocated and cause nervous system interference. This means that the joints move dysfunctionally and mobility is restricted.
Restriction of mobility leads to abnormal muscle function where the muscles of the spine weaken, get tight or go into spasm. Muscle spasms lead to soft tissue degeneration with increased inflammation during a spasm. Soft tissues affected are spinal discs, ligaments, and tendons.

The combination of joint mobility and abnormal muscle function can lead to bones spurs, built up scar tissue aka, spinal degenerative disease.

The Vertebral Subluxation Complex, describes what happens when spinal bones lose their normal motion or position from stress, trauma or chemical imbalances. It is the combination of the joint, muscle and soft tissue imbalance that occurs. Vertebral subluxation complex can be caused by automobile collisions, emotional stress, sitting for too long, improper lifting, and chemical imbalances.
